Adults:
Godric Gryffindor [M]
Rowena Ravenclaw [F]
Salazaar Slytherin [M]
Helga Hufflepuff [F]
Back when Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was only a thought in the process of becoming a reality, the founders had more on their minds that the establishment of a school. Emotions were awry, and Godric Gryffindor found himself pitted against a certain Salazaar Slytherin. Why, you ask? One of the stereotypical reasons that men squabble - a woman. Yes, both men were in love with the same woman, which just so happened to be Rowena Ravenclaw. Salazaar was so smitten with Rowena that he staked his own life on the likelihood that she would love him in return. It was pathetic, actually, the lengths that he went to in order to impress her. Yet she still didn't feel the same way.
Eventually, Rowena confessed that she did feel strongly for someone, but it wasn't Salazaar. She honestly felt bad for the bloke, but she just didn't love him. Poor Salazaar was mortified, yet his main concern wasn't that she did not return his sentiments, but uncovering who she did fancy. This was when things got tricky and complicated - Salazaar began stealthily trailing after Rowena wherever she went, hoping to catch her and her mysterious lover, thereby discovering his identity. Weeks, months went by, and still, Salazaar remained in the dark. Then one day, he finally found out who it was.
Godric Gryffindor.
Needless to say, Salazaar wasn't exactly thrilled and vowed his revenge. Rowena would be his, whether he had to fight Godric for him or hire someone else to do his dirty work for him. In the end, he resorted to kidnapping her and vacating the premises before Godric or anyone, for that matter, would notice. Only problem was, this would put their plans for the foundation of Hogwarts on hold. The four of them - him, Godric, Rowena, and Helga - had all been eager, perhaps even overzealous, at their idea. Now Salazaar threatened to jeapordize everything they were working for. And all because he was a wee bit (okay, insanely) jealous.
So would there be a Hogwarts? Thanks to Helga Hufflepuff, yes. Salazaar confided in her his dilemma, and she put to rest any qualms that remained. Even if Rowena didn't love him, she explained, there was someone that did. This temporarily quelled Salazaar's unrequited love, but he still harbored a sense of bitterness.
Also, the mystery was never solved - was Helga implying that she loved Salazaar? And did the founder of Slytherin House ever fully get over his affection for Rowena?
