The year is 1977, and for a group of four boys, it is their last year in the glorious school that is Hogwarts. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs—otherwise known as Remus, Peter, Sirius and James—are the famous, legendary Marauders who have put their school on edge for the past six years. Now coming into their seventh and final year, they have plenty of pranks and surprises planned for their peers and teachers, but, compared to the boys’ practical jokes, there is a far more dangerous threat looming around the corner.
Since the time before Thomas Marvolo Riddle, there have always been threats in the Wizarding World. Grindelwald was the first supreme danger within the community, and since that time, no wizard has ever succeeded him with the amount of pain and bloodshed caused. However, times are about to change...
Thomas Riddle had an interest in the Defence Against the Dark Arts, and was turned down to teach the subject twice—once by Headmaster Dippet and then by Headmaster Dumbledore—which led to an unmatched hatred for the man that had kept him from the position for a second time. Now older, wiser and with a lot more intent behind his words, Thomas Riddle is back after spending years hidden away researching and learning the Dark Arts.
It is 1977, also the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac. Nagini, Thomas's pet snake, is the main source of his power and his life. He feeds from her and she from him; it is a relationship based upon thriving and surviving, like anything else. As the year begins, the power of the Snake Zodiac is slowly increasing, and through ancient Chinese relics and artifacts, is being transferred into the body of Thomas's accomplice: Nagini.
From the snake, the power is then released into Thomas. With this, and his new transformation into Lord Voldemort, he feels unstoppable. The return of the Knights of Walpurgis also calls for a new name: Death Eaters, and they are branded with what is known among them as the Dark Mark, that of their leader, Voldemort. Meanwhile, Hogwarts sleeps on, wrapped up in the celebrations of the year, completely unaware that the Year of the Snake could bring forth the demise of both the Muggle and Wizarding World.
